Due diligence leads to Tami’s support of project with big potential for Rosemount

In December 2023, the Rosemount City Council unanimously approved the final site and building plan for a proposed $700 million data center. This project was previously code named Project Bigfoot.

With any project of this magnitude, research and due diligence is required. Tami proactively reached out to leaders and residents in other communities with data centers, in order to assess their real-life experiences with having a data center in their community. These included Altoona, Waukee, and West Des Moines, all in Iowa.

These leaders reported going through extensive reviews prior to approving site plans, very much like the lengthy reviews held in Rosemount. They also reported positive economic impacts spanning job creation, infrastructure improvements, community grants, and more.

As noted in the Twin Cities Pioneer Press at the time:

Councilmember Tami Klimpel said as a resident of the area, she also had concerns, but “every one of those is addressed in the proposal ahead of us today and then some,” she said Thursday.

Having done her due diligence, including reaching out to towns like Altoona, Iowa, to learn about how a Meta data center impacted their community, Klimpel said she is proud to support the project.
